The Discovery – Living a Good Life?:

I recently stumbled upon a pin on Pinterest that was titled ’23 Emotions People Feel But Can’t Explain’.

Naturally, a title like that would immediately grab my attention, prompting me to click and explore if any of those indescribable emotions resonated with me.

That’s when I came across this rather exquisite and thought-provoking word ‘SONDER’.

It said SONDER is ‘the realization that each passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own.’

Every time I read the definition, it sends shivers down my spine.
It’s an incredibly concise and stunning depiction of a truth that often slips my mind.

Are you the main player?

When one comes down to mull over this word, one realizes that we always tend to consider ourselves in the limelight of our narratives, like heroes in movies; and are always wishing for having a good life.

In the midst of all this, we fail to consider that we are the supporting actors in someone else’s narrative, where they are in the spotlight- not you.

I mean, we can never quite acknowledge someone else’s complexities in life unless we put ourselves in their shoes.
More often than not, we do not tend to do this. We tend to judge people the wrong way.
This is because we have simply not asked ourselves this simple question yet: If I were to place myself in her shoes, could I have done it?

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to get caught up in our own stories, struggles, and triumphs. But what if we took a moment to pause and consider that everyone around us is living a life just as complex and vivid as our own?

In the realm of social media:

Oh yes, that is so right. In this super fast-paced world encapsulated by social media, we tend to think how GOOD others’ lives are.
Just like me and my teenager life, I am sure you have looked at someone on the internet and thought: ‘Oh, they seem to be living a good life that I could never get. I wish I had the same level of success and happiness as them. I could never live up to such a life, I am purely not capable of it.’

When I came across SONDER, I questioned myself about this. What goes behind the scenes?

If I were a celebrity, of course, I wouldn’t want to portray myself crying online. I would only want to showcase the life I am living so I can inspire the millions who follow my lifestyle. But humans tend to take it the wrong way. Even the richest man in the world must be facing the same set of complexities as you are, but maybe at a different level and time. However, we still believe that they are sorted and we are not.

But the truth is: that no one is ever sorted in life. Let’s not worry about how to live a good life.

Let’s zoom in:

Everyone has their own adversities in life, we are just not around all the time to witness them and realize that ever others are facing what we are. It is not only about strangers and passersby but also people we constantly interact with in our lives, like our friends, cousins, classmates, etc.

• I am sure you have found yourself envious of the talents and skill sets of someone you are close to.
• I am sure you have thought about how you are living with people so perfect, with only you are not living a good life.
• And I am sure you have thought about how they did it, and you are not able to live a good life.

But now that you know about SONDER, the next time you think about someone else’s life being perfect and without errors, remember that they are being challenged with the same obstacles as you.

P.S.: you are not the only one, not living a good life. And if there is nobody else, I am, with my teenager life. In my view, no one is, no one can, no one knows how to live a good life.
